Poem & Artwork / Grief

I’m grieving the suffering of my people, family, and country. The destruction and destabilization of my country were not an accident. As people, we are a target, and our identity is now tether to catastrophic loss. My mother taught me resilience, and she would say, “maré ceinture Kané.” At some point tightening your waist tighter and tighter impairs your ability to breathe. We are out of breath suffocating in oppression.
